Most of the forwarders / shippers in the industry have encountered problems about damaged or bulged containers due to flexitanks. The idea of the conventional flexitanks is to preserve the liquid in a giant pillow that acts as a flexible tank. They are only a protective layer that preserve the cargo. The design allows the liquid to move. Once the liquid starts moving it generates hydrodynamic forces. Thus they transfer all the stress on the container. They exert the pressure to the side walls and to the bulkhead. If the bulkhead is a good one it resists the pressure and thus the pressure gets directed to the side walls of the container. It is very frequent that the containers can not handle such high presure and the side walls start to bulge.
The issue of bulging is a problem for shipping lines as well as the shippers. Some of those bulges are unrepairable and the rest even if repairable weakens the container and shortens its economic life. The shipping lines try to pass on these costs to the shippers as much as they can. So it becomes a problem along the chain.
E-Flex Easy Flexitank was designed to tackle this issue. The philosophy of the E-Flex design is different than its alternatives. E-flex is designed to have two small tanks on top of each other instead of one big tank as in conventional flexitanks. Unlike conventional flexitanks, the design of the E-Flex minimizes the movement of the liquid inside, thus avoiding the formation of hydrodynamic forces. E-flex is a self standing flexitank and the design keeps the product stable. Its pyramid shape enables it to exert no pressure to the side walls or to the doors of the container. Thus not only it avoids container damages but it also eliminates the need for bulkheads. E-Flex is the only flexitank in the industry that does not require bulkheads and make life easier for shippers.
By the same token, E-Flex can be used with almost any container available. There are many restrictions regarding the selection of containers with conventional flexitanks. This is due to the fact that conventional flexitanks rely on the strenght of the container as they transfer all the pressure coming from the liquid inside, towards the container. Being a self standing flexitank, E-Flex does not exert any pressure and thus does not need strong containers as in conventional flexitanks. E-Flex can be used with almost any container as long as it is cleaned well.
